Duggars need to invest in the Pill

So this week in People, the Duggars are back and talking about the 'emotional' birth of their 19th child (as I type this, my heart stops for a minute...NINETEENTH CHILD! O.M.G.). Born at just 25 weeks, this latest addition, Josie, was so premature she now is suffering from a cascade of health problems.

What kills me is that in spite of the fact that this little baby has been teetering on the brink of death and considering Michelle herself suffered from preeclampsia in this pregnancy, the Duggars are still going on about how Josie isn't necessarily going to be their last child. According to People:

"[The Duggars] remain committed to their belief that "each child is a gift from God" and are open to having more. Michelle knows how their position is likely to be viewed, particularly following Josie's arrival. "When I say we would love more children, we open ourselves up for attack," she admits.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Aside from the fact that having 19 children is insane (I'm sorry, it is. End of story). All of the stories written about her bang on about her being a 'miracle baby' yet no one has even bother to question the mental health of a couple who would potentially risk the life of another child in this way. I mean how selfish can you be? And while all of us are reeling and even a little giddy with the prospect of the Duggars becoming parents to a 20th, no one seems to even care about the fact that Baby Josie is barely hanging on to life in a bad way.

19 children = EPIC FAIL.

I thought you were pro-choice? Her uterus, her choice. They are caring for those children, they are debt free and not taking government money. I have trouble calling anyone "selfish" when they spend all their time and energy caring for others. It's pretty rude to tell someone they should "take a pill". Many women don't want to put that $h1t in their bodies. And being as pro woman as you are, I'm a little surprised you didn't suggest vasectomy. But anyway, they are not going to keep having children forever. Michelle is in her forties. If she hasn't had her last child I doubt she'll have more than one or two more. Everyone has the right to say whatever they want, of course, especially since they have put themselves in the public eye, but it's their business. And every one of those children deserve to be there. Who is anyone to say that THEIR life is more valuable than the Duggars' 15th or 17th or 19th child? These are people we're talking about.

I'm surprised they aren't walking out by now. Seriously, the world is over populated, and there are millions of children out there in need of a good home that have no parents, or support or a HOME. Where is their "gift from god"?? Stop f*cking, Duggars! Spell it out with me C-O-N-D-O-M.

Hi Sprout! I am pro-choice but my commentary had nothing to do with abortion. Reproductive freedom? I'm all for it. But let's get serious here. Just because you have the capacity to have 19 or 20 children doesn't mean you should. Not only is it tough on the mother's body, it is pretty irresponsible considering the planet is struggling to support the amount of people that are already here. My post was actually less about the Duggars' 'choice' to have a million kids; it was more of a commentary on how Michelle Duggar is parading herself in People magazine saying she wants a 20th kid when her 19th is hanging on by a thread!!!

Thanks for contributing and keep reading!

Of course. Love your blog. Don't always agree with you, but that's one of the reasons I enjoy it so much.

Also, the pill is what led to their mega-family. Michelle conceived and then miscarried while on the pill and that was very traumatic for her. I believe that started a series of events that led them to the Quiverfull movement.

Being able to afford a child is not the only limitation one should choose. There are many reasons to limit family size, including the mental health of the older girls, who invariably end up "watching" the young ones.

I can't believe they have 19 kids. I cannot question their belief. The only thing that bothers me is the health of the mother and the child. Have they thought that the ovary of the mother has been overly used? It may be risky for the mother to have another child complications are at higher risk. In case you have fertility concerns, I found this site that maybe helpful. http://www.natural-fertility-precription.com
